Information Measurement Systems Laboratory

The laboratory provides practical work with the hardware and software used in information measurement systems. Students and doctoral researchers study process measurement and automation, and develop measurement systems for energy and industrial applications through laboratory work, course projects and theses.

An information measurement system measures process variables, processes signals, raises alarms, archives data and presents results. Its technical components include programmable logic controllers (PLCs), HMI/SCADA systems and industrial field networks. Measurements may cover temperature, pressure, humidity, weight, fuel and electricity consumption, liquid and bulk-material levels, gas or liquid concentration, rotational speed, velocity, presence, movement and angular position. Signal processing includes linearisation, filtering and calculation of performance indicators; archived values and alarms can be reviewed through displays, recorders and HMI graphics.

The laboratory has six stands: temperature measurement; pressure and vacuum; energy-carrier flow; level and material weight; gas and liquid concentration; and remote monitoring. The stands use primary sensors, PLCs and HMI/SCADA systems from international manufacturers.

Laboratory topics include instrumentation and metrology, signal processing, information-measurement-system hardware and software, measurement-channel calculation, statistical analysis of industrial measurements, electrical connection diagrams for sensors and transmitters, and functional design of measurement systems.
