The Department of Automation of Energy Processes (AEP) studies industrial automation as an integrated engineering discipline: understanding the physical process, designing control strategies and connecting equipment with industrial software and data systems. Research builds on control engineering for energy and industrial processes and advances toward intelligent industrial automation.
Research themes
Devices and industrial networks: edge computing, programmable controllers, microprocessor systems, industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) prototypes and resilient network topologies.
Control software and data: control-law synthesis, integration of local devices and gateways, industrial development environments, and data preparation and analysis within control loops.
Cloud and industrial analytics: industrial cloud architectures, remote monitoring of distributed assets, and research into machine-learning methods for industrial data.
Digital twins and predictive analysis: dynamic models of complex equipment, simulation and virtual commissioning, predictive maintenance, and verification of control strategies using simulation or operating data.
Digital factories and cyber-physical energy systems: integration of process automation with production and business systems, with attention to efficiency, reliability and safe operation.
