Research and Teaching Laboratory Monitoring and Central Control System

All laboratories
Research and Teaching Laboratory Monitoring and Central Control System
Equipment & tools
Raspberry Pi, ESP, SVIT

This project demonstrates automation technologies associated with Industry 4.0 through a working ecosystem of equipment, installations and laboratory stands.

A Raspberry Pi 3 running mySMART HOUSE web-supervision software acts as the central controller and process-visualisation device. It connects laboratory heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, lighting, multimedia equipment such as a projector and sound systems, security devices including motion and door-status sensors, and teaching and research stands. Communication with local systems and peripherals uses industrial protocols or purpose-built software drivers.

Demonstrated functions

  • Web visualisation based on High-Performance HMI and Situational Awareness principles
  • Centralised system control
  • Archiving sensor readings and device states
  • Report generation and historical and real-time trends
  • Alarm handling and operating scenarios
  • SMS and email notifications
  • Access control and permissions

Users and learning outcomes

The system is intended for students and instructors working in the laboratory, facilities staff, and visitors from universities and industrial organisations. It provides a demonstration of integrated automation and an opportunity for future specialists to become familiar with these technologies.
