Student Life

Student life at AEP brings together practical engineering, creative activities and university friendships. Alongside lectures and laboratory work, students take part in department projects, robotics activities and visits that connect their studies with industrial practice.

Build and explore

The RoboHUB robotics club offers a setting for practical, project-based work. Explore the department’s staff and graduate projects to see how automation skills are used in energy, manufacturing, buildings and software. For participation information, contact the department or your academic group adviser.

A visit to the Hostomel glassworks

A departmental visit to the Hostomel glass factory gave students a close view of glass-container production. The visit followed the process from preparing raw materials and recycled glass through melting, forming, annealing, inspection and packaging.

Students learned how quartz sand, lime, sodium carbonate and recycled glass enter the melting process, which the visit report describes at around 1,580 °C. Cut portions of molten glass are shaped in moulds using compressed air. Controlled cooling in an annealing furnace reduces internal stresses before visual, mechanical and electronic checks identify defective containers. Rejected glass returns for remelting, while finished products are automatically stacked and wrapped for transport.

The visit connected process knowledge with the measurement, sequencing and quality-control tasks encountered in automation engineering.

Creative life at the former Thermal Power Engineering Faculty

The department’s archive also records the “Miss TEF” and “Mister TEF” student events, which combined themed costumes, performances, dance and an intellectual competition. AEP students Dmytro Reznyk and Anastasiia Tovstiuk won the faculty titles in the event described; Tovstiuk later took second place in the university’s “Queen of KPI” competition. These stories preserve a part of the department’s student community and the former faculty’s traditions.
