The project concerns Bookimed.com, an international online platform designed to help people compare clinics and arrange treatment. The case-study period covered patients from more than 190 countries; AEP alumni contributed to engineering work on the platform.
The recommendation system combined machine-learning algorithms with datasets of clinical cases, hospital ratings, patient reviews and procedure outcomes. It uses a patient’s diagnosis, budget and preferences to produce a shortlist of clinics, and incorporates new enquiries to refine its recommendations.
Department graduates contributed high-load microservices that handled more than 50,000 medical requests per month, cloud infrastructure with automatic scaling and reported service availability of 99.9%, and analytics to support decisions by doctors and care coordinators.
This engineering work applied digital technologies to healthcare with the aim of helping patients reach potential providers more quickly, regardless of where they lived.
