The airport engineering-system automation and monitoring project was designed to let staff supervise and operate distributed equipment remotely. The Honeywell Arena AX web-based SCADA system displayed process mimic diagrams and trends, processed alarms and could be accessed from a computer or mobile device with a standard browser. Honeywell Hawk integration controllers connected systems using different interfaces and communication protocols.
A weather-service connection provided cloud-cover and sunrise/sunset information for exterior-lighting schedules and enabled automatic adjustment of heating and ventilation temperature setpoints. The heating plant combined a cascade of Viessmann boilers with Vitotronic controllers and a heat substation controlled by a Honeywell Lynx controller.
The terminal’s air systems comprised 11 supply-and-extract units and 45 extract units. Lighting control covered indoor and outdoor areas: outdoor lighting used weather and daylight information, while indoor lighting could follow flight arrival and departure schedules or be operated remotely by an operator.
The supervisory system also received status information from lifts, escalators, a chiller, a diesel generator and electricity meters. Data were recorded in a database for later reporting.
